“Spiritually” Discerned

One thing I notice constantly is that whenever anyone tries to grasp the spiritual things of God with fleshly intellect, they crash and burn.  Me included.  I learned this the hard way, but now I know and stand by its truth.

“But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”  (1 Cor. 2:14)

I remember years ago God telling me that my “education” actually separates Him from me.  Now, does that mean God didn’t create the intellect?  Of course not.  What it does mean is that, through sin, God’s intended use for the intellect has been corrupted.  I used my brains as a prideful protection back then, to “buffer” me on every side, as so many do today.  The biggest problem with that is that, as I walled myself inside the fortress of intellectual storehouses, I also walled OUT any possibility of the Truth of God penetrating my fort.  Boxed in with my own narrow scope of vision and comprehension I felt safe but, honestly, I was fearful and deprived of  truth’s fullness in beauty and benefit to my soul.

The intellect was created by God not only to “hold” truth, but to “KNOW” truth.  And please remember that JESUS CHRIST IS THE TRUTH of which I’m speaking – the only Truth there is.  It’s two different things to hold a Bible in your hand and have Jesus in your heart.  One is holding, one is knowing.  The flesh is twitterpated by the gathering of knowledge… jingling all the sourballs of information in your head until it’s ready to burst is a real turn-on for the flesh.  The intellect feeds on its ability to turn phrases and circuitously explore brainiac regions of man-made conjecture turned fact.

YUCK!

The things of God are spiritually discerned, folks.  That means we have to be willing to leave the safe box of our puffed-up, storage room of an intellect to stand in the sunshine of humble, pure faith in God.  That’s the only way we are going to KNOW Him as His bride – in His bedchamber – as the Divine Husband He is.  Fleshly intellect has no place in the supernatural splendor of God’s garments.  Faith and man’s definition of intellect don’t mix.  They’ll never mix because the flesh CANNOT comprehend the things of the Spirit… it’ll never happen.

But God’s got a supernatural intellect residing in our spirit men which is empowered and controlled thoroughly by His Holy Spirit, and through that we are given power to believe and become the sons of God.  Through that we are given His supernatural impartation of faith, where we can believe the things our natural eyes don’t see, we can receive the Truth of God as “Spirit”, and we can welcome His wisdom and revelatory knowledge into our hearts and minds without the presence of fleshly intellect or a PhD.

The intellect of God’s spirit man in us is first of all HUMBLE… knowing that God reveals things outside of our human realm and scope of comprehension, constantly.  The thought that God is wrong just because we can’t understand Him exposes immense arrogance and pride.  The whole point is NOT to bring God down to our puny minds and limited understanding (which we pitifully deem “vast”); but rather to allow His Holy Spirit to elevate our understanding to the heights of His Divine desire to enlighten us with Truth.

Without Holy Spirit’s enabling, WE CAN’T UNDERSTAND, folks.  No matter how many Bibles you read or universities you attend, it all comes down to whether or not we yield to the Spirit’s understanding of a thing, and not our own.

Whenever we try to grasp the knowledge of God and His Realm through our own understanding, human experience,  and fleshly intellect we will crash and burn.  And once again we’ll be denied opportunity to reach the higher heights and deeper depths of experience with His Spirit.

What a pity.
